What we do
As a parent, raising children can be a rewarding but daunting journey. While many receive training in careers, parents are often left to figure out parenting on their own. This can be especially difficult as children are complex and unique individuals, and one parenting strategy does not fit all.
To help support parents in their journey, we are launching a community service called Parents Pray Kids Play. This group aims to equip parents with the skills and support they need to raise confident and successful future citizens. Through monthly prayers, meetings and ongoing connections, parents can build a supportive network or “village” to turn to during challenging times.
Goal #1
Build a village. Parents Pray Kids Play gives parents the opportunity to connect with other parents facing similar struggles and challenges. By coming together, they can learn from and support each other in their parenting journey. Additionally, children and parents have the chance to form long-term relationships with their peers, which is therapeutic.
Goal #2
Empower parents with effective nurturing skills. Each month, Parents Pray Kids Play focuses on a specific topic related to parenting. Parents meet for 2 hours every month and hold whole brain focused parenting discussions led by group members or invited experts. Children may also participate in discussions and psychoeducational sessions as needed. Children play in an allocated place while parents meet, and pray. “He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.” Isaiah 40:11 NIV
Goal #3
Spiritual focus: Every month parents are provided with a guided prayer verse to help them pray effectively for their children.Based on Isaiah 54:13 “All your children will be taught by the Lord, and great will be their peace” Prayers as part of parenting is crucial and a tool that gives hope and divine guidance. “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (Heb 4:16).
Goal #4
Prepare for the future: Preparing for the success of the next generation is key to the development of all aspects of life. Parents Pray Kids Play encourage parents to start saving money for their children’s college education early. Throughout the year, group members have the opportunity to learn about investing from experts in the field and discuss their own experiences in investments. Parents and children also learn about the tasks and preparations needed at each age to set their children up for success in college and life.
Research suggests that parenting support groups can have a number of benefits for both parents and children. According to a review of studies published in the Journal of Family Psychology, participation in parenting support groups has been linked to increased parental self-esteem and confidence, as well as improved child behavior and development. Other research has found that parenting support groups can provide a sense of community and reduce feelings of isolation (Source: “The Role of Parenting Support Groups in Promoting Positive Parenting Practices,” Journal of Family Psychology).
We hope you will join us at Parents Pray Kids Play to benefit from the support and resources this group has to offer.
